Female German Dog Names
Great Danes, Boxers, German Wirehaired Pointer, Affinpincher, Standard and Minature Poodles are just some of the many wonderful dog breeds that got started in Germany.
Female German Dog Names are Very Pretty
Many German dog names for girls are very pretty, but don't let that fool you, these are some tough working dogs!
Take the German Wirehaired Pointer. This breed of dog was developed to be a close worker over any kind of terrain. A rough wiry coat was needed to hunt through dense brambles. This breed, known as the Drahthaar in Germany, has since become the most popular hunting breed in Germany.
While the breed was recognized in America in 1959, they have never gained the popularity that they enjoy in their native Germany.

Name: Danke
Story: My oldest daughter works at a mall and she called last night to say there was a miniature female Schnauzer pup at the pet store they couldn't sell because it had a tear duct problem and they were going to put it down. Our immediate reaction was to save this little black baby when all she needs is some saline eye drops and someone whose willing to put them into her eyes daily. She's picking her up and bringing her home and we're naming her Danke after the German word "thank you or thanks" since we figure the name "Thanks or Danke" is appropriate after saving her life.

Name: Jetta
Story: In 2003 we purchased a black, female German Sheppard in Hot Springs Arkansas. I drove my daughter's new VW Jetta to pick her up, driving from Joliet Illinois, and she slept all the way home, 700 miles, so we named her Jetta, and it turned out to be a great name that really fits her great.

Name: Kitzel
Story: When we got our white german shepherd she was so very ticklish that if you scratched under her neck between her front paws she made all 4 legs jump. So we named her Kitzel which means "tickle me" in German.
Mr. and Mrs. Guinn
Note From Visitor: I just wanted to correct the meaning behind the dog named Kitzel that someone wrote about. Kitzel is german for "itch" and the word "me" is not part of the meaning. "Tickle me" in german is actually "tickle mich." So, Kitzel just means "itch."
But, it is a cute and unique name.
