How I came up with the name Dukayne.
My father has been my hero my whole life. I grew up on the water - with my dad - whether in boats, surfing, swimming... any way I could (the fact that I am Aquarius might explain a lot about my personality and hobbies). We had a female Shepherd/Husky mix who looked just like a wolf when I was growing up. My parents named her Dad always said that if he ever got a female German Shepherd he would name her Duchess. Well he did when I was 14, but he let me name her instead (Laydee). Lady just spelled differently. I always liked playing with the spelling of names since my dad did it to my own (Kathryn). So when I got a dog of my own I got a boy 3/4 Siberian Husky 1/4 German Shepherd, and in respect of my dad, I named him Duke (the male version of Duchess). That was not his full name though, his full name is Dukayne. I created this name out of three names that I liked. "Duke" his nickname, means "Leader", "Kai" means "Sea", and "Cane/Kane/Kaine" or the way I spelled it "Kayne" means "Warrior". |

I will never forget when my husband and I pulled into the breeder's driveway. At the very end was a huge kennel and I immediately locked eyes with a beautiful yellow lab. She too locked eyes with me and I just knew in my heart she was "the one". I told my husband before we got out of the truck that her name was going to be Suzie. We brought Suzie home and for years and years we called her by Suz, Suzie girl, Suzie. |
